Trial has been postponed for a former Lawrence man recaptured last fall in Nebraska after escaping from an Arkansas jail.
Chad Beers originally was scheduled to stand trial during a two-week court term that began Tuesday in Lancaster County District Court, Lincoln, Neb.
Sara Fullerton, Lancaster County deputy attorney, said today the postponement stemmed from defense motions filed after Beers was bound over for trial in early November.
Trial cannot begin until a Lancaster County judge rules on the motions. Fullerton said Beers' trial has been delayed until at least Feb. 27.
Beers was arrested Sept. 7 in downtown Lincoln after he allegedly attempted to rob a convenience store in Bennet, about 13 miles southeast of Lincoln.
Authorities had been searching for Beers since Aug. 30, when he escaped from the Sebastian County, Ark., Jail. Beers was awaiting transfer to a federal penitentiary on a 14-year federal sentence stemming from a September 1993 kidnapping in Arkansas.
