Burglaries and thefts reported
- Two Lawrence men remained in the Douglas County Jail following their arrests early this morning in connection with auto burglary and auto theft. A police report indicates the men were arrested at 3:25 a.m. in the 1900 block of Barker, shortly after a resident in the 300 block of Perry reported someone had backed his 1976 Ford Maverick out of his driveway and struck a car that was legally parked in the street. A police spokesman said that a 19-year-old man was booked into jail in connection with the alleged burglary of the car that was parked in the street. A 20-year-old man was booked in connection with the alleged theft of the car in the driveway, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended driver's license. Both men are expected to make their initial court appearances this afternoon.
- A 21-speed bicycle and a set of golf clubs, valued together on a police report at $1,047, have been reported stolen from a locked storage closet sometime between last Friday and Wednesday in an apartment building at the Meadowbrook Apartments.
- The sheriff's department is investigating a reported residential burglary in the southwest part of the county in which property valued at $4,891 was taken. The report indicates that between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the residence, located about 17 miles southwest of Lawrence on East 100 Road, was burglarized. Property taken included clothing, a video cassette recorder, a camera, two guns, four saddles and a car phone.
- A rural Baldwin man has reported that on Jan. 10 someone walked up onto his back porch and stole a 1957 Browning 12-gauge shotgun, valued at $500. The man, who was in the house watching television at the time, filed a report with the sheriff's department Tuesday.
