Can VNA nurses refuse work assignments in the homes of sick people who smoke?

Yes, says Marceil Lauppe, executive director of Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn.

``We would not refuse to take a patient because they smoke," Lauppe said. "If there's a reason a staff member objects to that, (the patient's care) would have to be reassigned.''
