Organizations looking for a community activity involving young people and democracy, look no further.
Lanaea Heine, coordinator at the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, is searching for civic groups, businesses or other organizations to adopt polling sites on election day for the Kids Voting USA program.
"The volunteers last time had a wonderful time," she said. "It was really exciting to see the kids cast their votes."
Of the 43 polling sites in Douglas County, 16 are staffed. Heine said she needed about 175 more people to volunteer. She suggested that organizations volunteer six people to work shifts of two hours each.
The hours children will vote Nov. 8 are 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Volunteer training sessions will be at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 1. At least one volunteer from each organization should plan to attend at least one of the sessions, Heine said.
