What's going on at the construction site at Harper and 23rd Street?
On Tuesday night, the Lawrence City Commission will consider a site plan that calls for a 3,500-square-foot convenience store that also would sell gasoline at the southwest corner of that intersection. Construction has not started on the store, but some preliminary work has been done.
The site plan was submitted by Steve Schwada on behalf of JDS Partnership. Duane Schwada, a local developer who is Steve Schwada's father, is a principal in the partnership. The tract is zoned for general commercial use.
According to a city-county planning staff report, the site plan also indicates two building sites south of the proposed store. "Potential uses discussed with the applicant include a mixture of financial, office and retail uses," the staff report says.
