A drizzly day couldn't stop the music Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Bands from Kansas and Missouri high schools participated in the 1994 Heart of America Marching Festival, described by Bob Foster, band director at Kansas University, as the state's largest marching band festival.

Receiving the best ranking -- a I -- were the following bands: Lewisburg, Blue Valley, Derby, Olathe South, Olathe East, Shawnee Mission West, Shawnee Mission South, Lawrence, Shawnee Mission North, Blue Valley Northwest, Glendale (Springfield, Mo.), Lee's Summit, Mo., and Olathe North.

Buhler and Shawnee Mission Northwest received I minuses.

The following bands received IIs: Lansing, St. Joseph, Mo., Benton, Ottawa, Leavenworth, Washburn Rural, Shawnee Mission East, Harrisonville, Mo., and Wichita North.

Goddard, Topeka West and Independence, Kan., received II minuses.
