The lone Democrat leading a statewide race, Treasurer Sally Thompson, treads on thin ice, a new poll finds.
State Treasurer Sally Thompson today received a rare bit of good news while on the campaign trail.
She's had few reasons to celebrate recently. An election poll last month showed Thompson was 10 percentage points behind Republican Randy Duncan of Salina.
In a new Mason-Dixon Political/Media Research poll released today to the Journal-World, Thompson led Duncan by a slim margin -- 31 percent to 28 percent.
"That's the best news," Thompson said before a campaign stop in Leavenworth. "I think the message is starting to get out as to what we've accomplished in the four years I've been in office."
With 41 percent of voters undecided, the treasurer's race is anybody's to win.
The poll by the Columbia, Md., company assessed the views of 814 Kansans registered to voter. Margin of error was 3.5 percentage points in the survey conducted Sept. 29 to Monday.
Mason-Dixon's poll indicated Republican candidates were within striking distance of winning all statewide elections in Kansas.
Prospects of GOP victories appeared best in races for governor, attorney general, secretary of state and insurance commissioner.
