Fire destroyed a rural Lecompton house early today, causing $225,000 in damage but no injuries, authorities said.
The fire at 1812 E 758 Rd. was reported at 5:02 a.m., said Judy Osburn, a spokeswoman for the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
The owner, Norman Miller, reported being awakened by a smoke alarm and the smell of smoke and burning rubber, Osburn said. She said Miller was waiting outside the house when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters from Lecompton, Kanwaka, Wakarusa and Tecumseh fought the blaze, which destroyed the home, estimated to be worth $150,000, and an estimated $75,000 in household goods.
The cause of the fire was not determined and remained under investigation, Osburn said.
