Sunday night's annual St. John School Benefit Auction raised $87,600 for the school, Karen Collins, auction chair, said today.
"It was great and I think everybody had a lot of fun," Collins said.
Collins said 434 people attended the event, held at the Lawrence Holidome. About 800 donated gifts were auctioned, including an autographed Joe Montana football jersey, a trip to New York to see "Miss Saigon," a Ford Windstar minivan and a Ford Contour.
Collins said $9,600 of the total was raised for the school's air conditioning and heating fund. The rest will go into the school's endowment and development funds.
Pat Newton, principal, said, "It was incredible. That kind of support is just overwhelming ... It was a community effort."
Last year's auction raised $80,000.
