Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 20-year-old Kansas University student reported that someone broke into his 1989 Ford Thunderbird between 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday and stole 115 compact discs. The car was parked in the 1500 block of Louisiana. The value of the compact discs and damage done to the car's window totaled $1,925.
  • A stereo receiver, a compact disc player and two stereo speakers valued together on a police report at $1,000 were reported stolen between 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday from a residence in the 200 block of Illinois. The police report said it was not known how the suspects entered the residence.
  • Property valued on a police report at $2,694 was reported stolen about 8 p.m. Sunday from a residence in the 600 block of Gateway. According to the police report, entry was made through a window. Items reported stolen included a man's bicycle, stereo equipment, jewelry, a television, a videocassette recorder, compact discs and other items.

Criminal case proceedings

  • A 44-year-old Lawrence man has pleaded no contest to an amended charge of attempted misdemeanor theft filed in connection with a mid-July auto burglary and the theft of compact discs and computer disks. Osbey C. Hunter, 1345 Pa., originally had been charged with auto burglary and theft. He entered his plea Friday after prosecutors filed the amended complaint. He is to be sentenced Dec. 15.
