Condition reports

  • The condition of one of two men injured Friday in a two-vehicle accident at Second and Locust was downgraded this morning at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Benjamin Newell, 68, Lawrence, had been listed in fair condition. He was listed in serious condition this morning. The second man, George Weber, 74, remained in fair condition at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
  • Two women injured in a two-vehicle accident shortly before midnight Saturday south of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 59 remained hospitalized this morning. Catherine A. Hogan, 17, Arlington Heights, Ill., the driver of one of the vehicles involved, was upgraded from fair to good condition at KUMC. Cheree Sharkan, 18, Wilmette, Ill., remained in serious condition at KUMC but she has been moved out of the hospital's intensive care unit, a hospital spokesman said. The two were injured when a northbound car driven by Sherri H. Bateson, 30, Topeka, drove left of center and sideswiped the Hogan vehicle.
