A 31-mile car chase from Lenexa ended at a dead end for nine suspects early Saturday morning.
Five suspects -- four males and a female -- were arrested at the scene and four others escaped when they fled on foot from the car after driving into a dead end at Louisiana Street and Edgehill Road in Lawrence, authorities said.
Lenexa police said the incident began at 12:14 a.m. Saturday when they received a call from someone using a mobile phone who said another vehicle was trying to run him off the road.
The police instructed the man to turn east onto 87th Street from I-435 and head toward the Lenexa police station.
The Lenexa police said they caught up with the vehicle carrying the suspects at 87th and Candlelight. The vehicle then crashed through a gate at the Rising Star Elementary School in Lenexa before heading back to I-435, police said.
The pursuit continued west on Kansas Highway10 into Lawrence, where the Lawrence Police and members of the Kansas Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit.
The vehicle the suspects were driving had been stolen in Kansas City, Mo., earlier Friday night. Lenexa police said that the five suspects were facing felony charges in Kansas and Missouri.
