A 20-year-old Lawrence man was released from an Overland Park hospital Monday after suffering a gunshot wound Sunday evening.
Johnson County sheriff's Lt. Bob Miller said today that the man was shot in the leg about 11:40 p.m. Sunday during an altercation on Kansas Highway 10 near DeSoto.
Miller said the victim and a companion, a 17-year-old boy, were westbound on K-10 when they and the occupants of another car began arguing.
"At some point, a shot was fired into the tire of the car the victim was riding in," Miller said.
Miller said both vehicles stopped, and the victim and a passenger in the other car got out.
"At that point, more shots were fired -- we don't know exactly how many -- and one of them struck the victim," Miller said.
Investigators have been unable to determine how the argument started, Miller said.
He said the victim was taken by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where he was treated. A medical center spokeswoman said today that the victim was released Monday.
Miller said no suspects had been identified but officers are continuing to investigate the shooting.
