A teen-ager was detained and a 21-year-old man was arrested today after they allegedly robbed a delivery driver of a pizza, Lawrence police reported.

Police reported that a 24-year-old driver for Pizza Shuttle, 1601 W. 23rd, was delivering a pizza at 11:45 p.m. Thursday to an apartment at 1125 Tenn. when a 16-year-old boy attacked him with a can of Mace.

The driver held the pizza box over his face to shield himself from the spray, police said, then dropped the box and ran after the attacker.

Police Sgt. Rick Nickell said the attacker fled, and the man went to a nearby bar to call police. Police obtained a description of the youth and broadcast it over police radio.

A short time later, police said, a security guard driving in the area reported seeing the suspects at a residence under construction in the 1300 block of Kentucky.

Nickell said police found the two at the residence, where they apparently had been staying for some time.

Police reported that after being chased from the scene of the robbery, the youth and the 21-year-old man had gone back to pick up the pizza.

Nickell said the delivery driver was not injured in the attack.
