A Lawrence man was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the February stabbing death of Curtis J. Thomas, a 28-year-old Pierce City, Mo., man.
The man was arrested about 3:50 p.m. Friday. He remained in Douglas County Jail late Friday on a felony count of second-degree murder. Bond was set at $50,000.
Thomas' body was found shortly after 2 a.m. Feb. 12 when the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a residence a few blocks from the Riverside Bar in North Lawrence.
Thomas had suffered a critical wound to the back -- a wound that was inflicted before the accident occurred, police said.
According to a press release from the Lawrence Police Department, the suspect was arrested by detectives after a warrant was issued by the Douglas County district attorney's office.
Few details in the case were available late Friday and little is known about how Thomas died.
Dist. Atty. Jerry Wells was unavailable for comment late Friday.
Thomas last was seen sometime between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Feb. 12 at the Riverside Bar, 520 N. Third.
After the crash, Thomas was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
