There's no change at the top at Cottonwood Inc., just a title change.

Sharon S. Spratt is the new executive director of Cottonwood Inc., an organization for people with developmental disabilities.

The organization's board of directors made the decision Friday. Spratt, 44, had been serving as acting director since Jon C. Hellebust left June 1 to head the CARC Farm and Washington Ranch in New Mexico.

"It's always been in the back of my mind that I'd like to be the director of this kind of organization," Spratt said this morning.

Cottonwood employs 150 staff members, who serve 200 people with developmental disabilities and conduct programs and provide information for 400 others in Douglas and Jefferson counties.

Spratt said she would work to make sure Cottonwood received its third consecutive three-year certification from the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation facilities.

Spratt joined Cottonwood in 1989 as administrator of client services. Previously, she was state coordinator for the Supported Employment National Network. She earned her education degree from Kansas State University.
