— Services for Edith C. Walden, 98, Fairmount, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth with the Rev. James Ullig officiating. Burial will be in Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Mrs. Walden died Thursday, April 7, 1994, at the Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born Feb. 1, 1896, in Ridgefarm, Ill., the daughter of Tillman and Rosa May Hayne Colborn. She moved to the Basehor area in 1897.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairmount more than 80 years and the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member of the Fairmount Farm Bureau Unit more than 50 years and served as the first president. She served on the County Board, the advisory council and served a term as district director.

In 1939 she attended the international meeting of "The Country Women of the World" in London where she served as chairman of the Kansas Delegation. She was a charter member of the Old Leavenworth County Chorus and the Basehor Garden Club and a member of the Merry Matrons club more than 30 years.

She married Walter Walden in 1914 in Kansas City, Kan. The couple moved to Fairmount where they lived until Walter's death in 1975. A son also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Rickel, Lawrence; a son, William, Satellite Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairmount Methodist Church or the Eudora Nursing Center.
