A Lawrence man has been arrested in connection with the attempted rape of a Lawrence woman on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon on a warrant charging aggravated burglary and attempted rape.
A man reportedly broke into the home of a 33-year-old Lawrence woman and attempted to rape her early Tuesday.
Police were called about 4 a.m. to the 1600 block of Learnard Avenue after a neighbor called 911. The woman at the residence said the man broke in and tried to rape her. He was armed with a knife, she said, and he was cut while struggling with her, a police spokesman said. The man was not at the residence when police arrived. Later, police were called to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where the man reportedly had gone for treatment of a cut.
Police interviewed the suspect at the hospital and forwarded the case to the district attorney's office.
The man was being held on $100,000 bond today in the Douglas County Jail. He was scheduled to make a first appearance in Douglas County District Court this afternoon.
