Services for Robert L. McBride, 63, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Ron Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. McBride died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1993, at his home.
He was born June 19, 1930, in Lincoln, Neb., to Robert and Virginia Ludwig McBride. He graduated from Benson High School in Omaha, Neb., and attended the University of Nebraska, where he played guard on the Cornhuskers' football team. He moved to Lawrence in 1960 and started the M & M Oil Co.
Mr. McBride served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he had served on the board of trustees and was a former deacon. He also was a member and past president of the Lawrence Country Club, a member of the Alvamar Country Club, the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14, Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 9, Scottish Rite of Lawrence, Abdallah Temple of Overland Park, the KU Williams Fund, and the Kansas Oil Marketers Assn. He was a past member of the Lawrence Breakfast Optimist Club.
He married Joan Smith on Dec. 28, 1951, in Omaha, Neb. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his mother, Virginia McBride; two sons, Mike, Lawrence, and Patrick, Prairie Village; a brother, Wally McBride, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Rumsey Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church building fund in care of the mortuary.
