A 45-year-old Wellsville area man was listed in serious condition this morning after his left arm was severed in a tractor-mower accident.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. Thursday when Larry L. Shepard, a Kansas Department of Transportation employee, was mowing a ditch along Kansas Highway 33 about three miles south of Wellsville.
Franklin County sheriff's Lt. Kevin Kimball said Shepard apparently lost control of the tractor and was run over by the vehicle after hastily leaving it. His left arm was severed by the mower, and his left leg was partially severed, Kimball said.
Shepard was flown by Life Flight helicopter to the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
