The board of trustees at Lawrence Memorial Hospital today approved contracts totaling $3.2 million for construction of a new medical office building.

The building, which will house some hospital facilities as well as private medical offices, will be attached to the hospital.

The general contractor for the project is Bennett Construction Company Inc., of Kansas City, Mo. The mechanical contractor is The Fagan Company of Kansas City, Kan., and the electrical contractor is Quality Electrical of Lawrence.

Construction of the medical office building is the first phase of a planned expansion and renovation of the hospital that eventually will include construction of a new wing. Some earth moving in preparation for construction of the medical office building began last month.
