Two local silkscreen printers have announced a cooperative venture that will allow both downtown businesses to expand.

Shirts Illustrated, 804 N.H., has acquired the equipment and printing staff of Creation Station, 726 Mass. Shirts Illustrated, a 5-year-old company owned by Joe Cunningham, will consolidate the printing operations for both shops, in addition to doing the printing on work designed by Creation Station.

Creation Station is co-owned by Kevin Dixon, its art director; Schuyler Lister, sales manager; and Dawn Narramore, retail manager.

Dixon said that as part of the realignment of its business, Creation Station plans to expand its market outside Lawrence. The company is readying a line of preprinted garments for national distribution and is making contacts with overseas distributors for exporting products.

Closer to home, Creation Station will expand its in-house artistic services to include not only artwork for screenprinting but also services in the advertising and public relations vein, such as logo and graphic design and business image development.

At the same time, Creation Station will expand its retail side with a Concentrated Fun shop on the store's second floor, which is being renovated. Chocolate Moose, a gourmet candy shop owned by Greg Mitchell, who makes his own chocolates, will be located on the second floor along with such items as youth clothing and scientific and educational toys and games.

Dixon said the store will continue its street level retail operation, which includes consigned work of local artists and jewelers, hand-dyed clothing and other merchandise, such as incense and body products.
