A 36-year-old Jefferson County man was charged Monday with kidnapping and sexually assaulting his ex-wife.
Jail officials said the man remained in Jefferson County Jail today on felony counts of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, aggravated sexual battery and kidnapping. He also was being held on misdemeanor counts of theft, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $100,000.
Lt. Orin Turner, a detective with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, gave this account of the arrest:
The man allegedly went out with his ex-wife Friday night. About 2 a.m. Saturday, the suspect took the woman to his home northwest of Valley Falls where, deputies allege, he sexually assaulted her until about 6 a.m.
After the assault, the woman called a friend who came to pick her up. When she tried to get into the car, the suspect allegedly beat her, refusing to release her until the victim's friend called on a radio for the victim's husband.
The suspect's preliminary hearing was set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 17.
