Q: What are the top three or four building priorities at KU?
A: Kansas University Architect Allen Wiechert said planning will begin this summer for three projects partially funded by the Legislature this session. One of the projects is a $1.58 million building addition to Dyche Hall. That project will add about 10,000 square feet to the building, which houses the Kansas Museum of Natural History. The new space will be used to store museum specimens, he said. The second project is a $1.9 million effort involving the construction of fire exit stairs and an overhead walkway at Allen Fieldhouse. The third project is a $2.625 million cleanup of the Sunflower landfill near DeSoto, in which KU stored low-level radioactive waste and organic byproducts. Two major construction projects currently under way -- the renovation of Lewis Hall cafeteria and the renovation of the Kansas Union -- will be completed this summer, Wiechert said.
