Former Douglas County Commissioner Mike Amyx has been appointed by Gov. Joan Finney as barber representative to the Kansas Board of Barbering.

Amyx is owner of Amyx Class Act, 842 Mass., and Plaza Barber Shop, 1804 Mass. He is also a barber for the Amyx Barber Shop, 842 Mass., which is owned by his father, Tom.

Amyx has served two terms on the Lawrence City Commission, two terms as Lawrence mayor and two terms as chairman of the county commission.

Amyx's term on the barbering board will expired April 30, 1996. He succeeds Mark Strange, Liberal.

Amyx attended Kansas University and graduated from Farrell Academy of Barbering in 1975.
