New patrol cars for the Kansas University police department will be on the road in about two weeks, KU Police Lt. John Mullens said.
Five Chevrolet Caprices for the department arrived Wednesday, he said.
The cars are being fitted with decals and police equipment. They will be used by police when work is completed in about two weeks, he said.
Five older police cars were traded in for the new ones. The cost after trade-in for the new cars was about $55,000, he said.
KU police purchase new cars about once every two years, he said.
The current cars, which are 3 years old, have been driven about 100,000 miles each.
Lawrence police purchased six new patrol cars within the past month.
