Osawatomie Vernon William Dunaway Jr., 72, Osawatomie, died Sunday, June 20, 1993, at Menorah Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. He was cremated.
He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Paola to Vernon William (Sr.) and Helen Beatrice Hoover Dunaway.
Mr. Dunaway was educated in Osawatomie schools and attended Kansas University for two years.
In 1942, he went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad. On July 23, 1942, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was discharged in 1945 at the rank of sergeant.
He married Marvelle Maxine Cockran in Osawatomie on Nov. 17, 1945.
Mr. Dunaway was a member of United Methodist Church in Osawatomie, United Transportation Union Osage Valley No. 24 A.F. & A.M., VFW Hanlin Kelly Post No. 2258 and past president of Osawatomie High School Alumni.
He retired in 1980.
Survivors include his mother, Helen King of Topeka; his wife, Marvelle, of the home; a son, Jeff, of Topeka; a daughter, Gayle Dunaway of Lawrence; three sisters, Marianna Grant of Topeka, Barbara Hubbell of Leawood and Marcella Kirk of Pueblo, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Arthritis Foundation or the Osawatomie High School Alumni Scholarship. Memorials can be sent in care of Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie.
