Oskaloosa A 16-year-old Oskaloosa girl was killed Sunday afternoon in a car accident about seven miles west of here.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Rynita Reiling was driving a 1989 Ford Probe west on Kansas Highway 92 about 2:27 p.m. Sunday. John Simonis, 23, was driving a 1986 Ford pickup north on FAS 328, a Jefferson County road that runs along the east side of the lake, when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of the two roads and hit the girl's car broadside. The collision spun both vehicles to the northwest corner of the intersection.
The girl was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka, where she was pronounced dead.
The Highway Patrol report didn't say whether Simonis was injured. Two passengers, David and Dale Langley, both from Easton, were riding in his truck. David Langley, 21, refused treatment at the scene, and Dale Langley, 24, was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was treated and released.
No citations were issued, and Dennis Tate, the Highway Patrol officer that worked the accident, wasn't available to say whether the case would be turned over to the Jefferson County attorney's office.
Hampton-Barrett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa is handling funeral arrangements.
Another weekend accident in Wichita resulted in the death of Brett Wittner, 26, when he was thrown from a car after it hit a curb and flipped, authorities said.
