A man armed with a handgun made off with $350 in cash after robbing a local liquor store about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Lawrence police reported today.
Officers reported that the man entered Wehner's Retail Liquor, 945 E. 23rd, pointed a small silver handgun at a clerk and demanded cash. The man left the area on foot after the clerk handed him money, police Lt. Dan Affalter said.
The clerk was not injured.
Affalter said a second suspect was seen meeting with the armed man before the robbery. During the robbery, the second suspect acted as a lookout, Affalter said.
Witnesses told police that after the robbery, the armed man fled east. The second suspect fled south on foot.
It was the second armed robbery in Lawrence in as many days.
Monday afternoon, an unidentified man made off with $363 in cash after an armed robbery at Godfather's Pizza, 711 W. 23rd.
Although descriptions of the suspects in the robberies were not identical, police said the two crimes may be related.
