The attorney for a 21-year-old Lawrence man entered an innocent plea for his client this morning on murder charges stemming from the Nov. 27 shooting deaths of two Topeka men outside a west Lawrence bar.
During an arraignment and trial-setting hearing this morning in Douglas County District Court, District Judge Ralph M. King Jr. scheduled a trial for April 12 for Stephen Bradley Perdue.
Perdue is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Jim Buswell, 42, and Jerry Thompson, 32, both of Topeka.
Prosecutors allege that Perdue shot and killed both men with a 9mm semiautomatic pistol in a parking lot near Henry T's Bar and Grill, 3520 W. Sixth.
King scheduled a hearing for 4 p.m. April 1 to discuss pre-trial motions.
During a preliminary hearing on Jan. 6 and Jan. 7, police testified that the shootings occurred after Perdue and a friend had begun arguing with Thompson, Buswell and at least one other man over a pool table.
