A Topeka man was killed and a DeSoto man was injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday in Jefferson County, according to a dispatcher with the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Claude Berry, 77, Topeka, was driving a 1983 Lincoln west on U.S. Highway 24 about 3:05 p.m. when he lost control of the car about two miles northwest of the Douglas County line. The car crossed the center line, struck an oncoming pickup truck and overturned.
Berry was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, Claude Makepeace, 60, DeSoto, was listed in serious condition at Kansas University Medical Center today.
Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, the dispatcher said.
