A Hays couple has donated $175,000 for a scholarship fund for students in Kansas University's schools of medicine and nursing, officials announced today.
The gift to the KU Endowment Association established the Paul and Virginia Bassett Miller Scholarship Fund for students in the KU School of Medicine and the School of Nursing.
The Millers have lived in Hays since 1979. They are members of the KU Alumni Association and the Chancellor's Club, KU's major donor organization.
Previous gifts from the Millers include support for the Paul and Virginia Bassett Miller Engineering Scholarship Fund, the Paul and Virginia Bassett Miller Endowed Scholarship Fund, and the School of Engineering Faculty Development Fund.
Paul Miller, a Palco native, graduated with a bachelor's degree from KU in 1932. He spent his career in the banking, farming and oil exploration industries. He is retired.
Virginia Bassett Miller attended Southern Methodist University and graduated with a bachelor's degree from KU in 1930. At KU, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was a homemaker.
The Millers lived in Corona Del Mar, Calif., for 20 years before moving to Hays.
