Douglas County authorities have caught a 22-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man who had eluded them for nearly a week after he allegedly kidnapped and sexually molested a 36-year-old woman.
The man was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sodomy, attempted rape, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, burglary and theft in the incident, which occurred Jan. 28 at the woman's residence four miles west of Lawrence.
The victim said she was abducted and attacked after she arrived home from work and surprised two burglars.
A 23-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man was detained shortly after the incident and was charged Monday in Douglas County District Court with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated criminal sodomy, attempted rape, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.
Douglas County Sheriff Loren Anderson said the younger man was arrested in Kansas City, Kan., by a Kansas Bureau of Investigation officer with help from Douglas County and Jefferson County authorities. The 22-year-old man was scheduled to make a first appearance today in Douglas County District Court.
