The auctioning Tuesday of 53 Christmas trees at the Festival of Trees brought in a record $32,605 for the The Shelter Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides emergency services for local youths.
"We did well," said Judy Culley, executive director of The Shelter.
The tree by Lawrence residents Charles and Anna Bell Vaughn brought in $3,700, which is the most any tree has ever garnered in the annual event. Hallmark Cards bought the tree, which featured wooden birds that Charles Vaughn carved and that Anna Bell Vaughn had painted.
The trees will be on display until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Hall, 642 Mass.
