A private memorial and inurnment service for William R. "Bill" Wachs, 43, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawrence Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Alton Pope officiating. Cremation is planned.
Mr. Wachs died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1993, at his home. He had brain cancer.
He was born Sept. 28, 1949, in Smith Center, the son of Ray E. and Arlene Taylor Wachs. He had moved to Lawrence in 1968 from Independence, Kan.
Mr. Wachs was personnel director for the Lawrence Paper Co., where he had worked for 25 years. He was a Kansas University graduate with a physical education degree. He had an athletic scholarship and was a member of the 1968 Orange Bowl football team.
He attended Central United Methodist Church, was a member of the Personnel Administrators of Lawrence and had served on the executive board of the KECH.
He and Susan Jo Carroll married Dec. 14, 1968, in Prairie Village. She survives of the home.
Mr. Wachs is also survived by two daughters, Deanna Carroll Pressgrove, Las Vegas, and Stephanie Ray Wachs of the home; his parents, Ray and Arlene Wachs, Coffeyville; two brothers, Ted, Independence, and David, Coffeyville; two sisters, Kathy Wachs and Tina Foster, both of Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the William R. Wachs Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.
