Lawrence police this morning were searching for two armed men who reportedly robbed four people Tuesday evening at an apartment in the 800 block of East 14th Street, then fired shots into the building as they left.
Police Lt. Ed Brunt said a 21-year-old Lawrence man reported that he and three other people were in his apartment at 9 p.m. Tuesday when someone knocked on the door.
A 21-year-old woman who also lives at the apartment answered the door, and two men armed with handguns forced their way in and ordered the four to lie on the floor. The suspects removed stereo equipment from the apartment and took a ring from either the 21-year-old man or one of two men, ages 20 and 26, who were visiting.
Police said a suspect demanded cash from the 20-year-old man. The man said he didn't have any money, and the suspect threatened to shoot the woman.
The man then gave the suspect $60, Brunt said.
Items taken in the robbery were valued together on a police report at $5,400.
Brunt said that after the men left, witnesses reported hearing eight to 10 shots being fired. Bullet holes were found in the rear of the apartment, he said. No one was injured.
Brunt said police have not identified suspects or a motive in the robbery. He said the case has been turned over to the detective division and that investigation was continuing today.
