After spending three rocky weeks in the hospital, a 19-year-old Kansas University cross country runner who was struck by a car is going home.
Jeremy McClain said this morning that he expected to be released today from the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
McClain, who nearly lost his left foot and survived a life-threatening medical complication during his stay at KUMC, said he had felt ready to go home for several days.
After leaving the hospital, McClain plans to go to his parents' home in Overland Park.
"I'm going to stay there this semester," he said. "I'm laying off school for the rest of the semester."
McClain was running Sept. 2 at 23rd and Louisiana when the accident occurred. Authorities said he suffered several fractures of his left leg.
In two weeks, McClain will return to the hospital for another operation.
"I'm going to get a new rod" in the leg, he said. "The one that's in there now is too long."
