A vintage Santa Fe Railway steam locomotive is scheduled to chug through Lawrence on Tuesday morning after ending its run at Topeka's Railroad Days celebration.
The engine, No. 3751, is scheduled to leave Topeka at 8 a.m. and arrive at 10 a.m. in Kansas City. A Santa Fe representative said the locomotive probably would pass through Lawrence about 8:45 a.m.
The locomotive and its coach cars steamed through Lawrence on Friday morning, gathering a crowd at the Santa Fe Depot on Seventh Street.
The locomotive, which is being run as part of an employee recognition program, was first put on the rails in 1927 and was in operation until 1953.
It was restored by the San Bernardino, Calif., Railroad Historical Society and is bound for Chicago this week.
