A Kansas University law school graduate has begun providing legal services at the Lawrence Indian Center, the center announced.
On Thursday, Dennis J. "Boog" Highberger began giving advice and offering legal representation in areas such as landlord-tenant disputes, Indian Child Welfare Act cases and any area related to preservation of families.
Highberger is a former Kansas University Student Senate president.
The Indian center also plans to establish a program to help Native Americans who experience legal problems as a result of alcohol or substance abuse.
There will be no income guidelines for eligibility. Initial office hours for the center's attorney will be from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays. Appointments may be made by calling the Indian center, 841-7202.
