The Lawrence school board on Monday will hear from three local construction firms that have proposed working as a project management team to coordinate work on six school projects.
A $29.9 million bond issue approved by voters Nov. 3 will finance the construction of two new elementary schools and a fourth junior high school. The bond issue also will finance the renovation of Lawrence High School and Central Junior High School and the expansion of Wakarusa Valley School.
Three Lawrence firms, Harris Construction, B.A. Green Construction and Gene Fritzel Construction, have offered to help coordinate the six projects.
IF THE board were to choose the project management team to handle the subcontracting, it might eliminate the need for a general contractor for each project. However, board members have expressed concern about a possible conflict of interest if Harris, Fritzel and Green were to do any of the subcontracted work.
The board decided at its last meeting to invite representatives of Harris, Fritzel and Green to Monday's board meeting to present their proposal.
The board will meet at 7 p.m. at the district's Service Center, 3705 Clinton Pkwy. Sunflower Cablevision subscribers can watch the meeting on Channel 47.
