The final results of the jellybean poll conducted by Ye Olde Sugarosity Shoppe at its two candy stores in Lawrence are in and Bill Clinton was the winner.

Barbara Wood, owner of the shops, said after 12 weeks of voting by customers at her shops, here are the results: Clinton won with 18.69 pounds of jellybeans, or 51 percent; George Bush, 12.29 pounds, or 33.54 percent; Ross Perot, 4.72 pounds or 12.88 percent; and Harold Stassen, 0.94 pound, or 2.56 percent.

Wood said she enjoyed conducting the poll, in which customers placed a jellybean in a jar labeled with the name of their favorite candidate. She has stores at the Lawrence Riverfront Plaza and at 15 W. Ninth.

"It engendered a lot of political comment and enabled me to understand people's feelings about the election in great depth," she said.

It also brought Hillary Clinton to the Riverfront Plaza store when Mrs. Clinton was campaigning for her husband in Lawrence.

During her Oct. 13 visit, Mrs. Clinton dropped a jellybean into her husband's jar.
