Kansas University is covering all the bases in case rain invades on commencement day.
If there is heavy rain Sunday morning, an announcement will be made at 1 p.m. whether to postpone the ceremony.
Two blasts of the university whistle will indicate postponement, and an announcement will be made through the KU Information Center, 864-3506; through local radio stations KANU (FM-91.5), KLZR (FM-106), KJHK (FM-90.7), and KLWN (AM-1320); and Sunflower Cablevision (cable Channel 6).
At 4 p.m. the location of the postponed ceremony will be announced through the media outlets and the Information Center. Two blasts of the university whistle will indicate an indoor ceremony.
If the weather has cleared enough to allow an outdoor ceremony, graduates will assemble along Memorial Drive at 5 p.m. for a 5:30 p.m. procession into Memorial Stadium.
If it is still raining heavily, the ceremony will be moved indoors to Allen Fieldhouse. Graduates will be split into two groups. One group will assemble at 5 p.m., the other at 7 p.m.
Graduates from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School (masters' and doctoral candidates) will assemble on the third floor of the fieldhouse at 5 p.m. Graduates from all the other schools (allied health, architecture and urban design, business, education, engineering, fine arts, journalism and mass communications, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and social welfare) will assemble at the fieldhouse no earlier than 7 p.m.
In case of postponement, the chancellor's reception will not be held.
Maps showing both indoor and outdoor procession lineups will be distributed with caps and gowns.
