COMMENCEMENT ACTIVITIES TO GET UNDER WAY ON FRIDAY

Following is the schedule for activities associated with Kansas University Commencement.

Friday

Noon: Joseph R. Pearson Residence Hall will open for registered guests.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: International Studies and Programs reception for graduating international students. Malott Room, Kansas Union.

7:30 p.m.: School of Medicine hooding and awards ceremony. Jack Reardon Civic Center, Fifth and Minnesota streets, Kansas City, Kan.

Saturday

9 a.m.: School of Allied Health student recognition ceremony. Granada Theatre, Kansas City, Kan.

10 a.m. to noon: Graduating student athletes recognition brunch and awards ceremony. Adams Alumni Center.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Pre-ordered caps, gowns, tassels and hoods may be picked up at gates 22 and 23, north end, Memorial Stadium. Late orders also will be accepted at this time.

10:30 a.m.: School of Nursing recognition ceremony. Jack Reardon Civic Center, Fifth and Minnesota streets, Kansas City, Kan.

11 a.m.: Phi Beta Kappa initiation. Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Luncheon and open house for graduates of allied health, medicine, nursing and medical center graduate programs and their families. Fountain courtyard, Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.

Noon: Phi Beta Kappa initiates reception. Big Eight Room, Kansas Union.

2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Reception for graduating seniors who have completed the College Honors Program and the University Scholars Program, Summerfield and Watkins-Berger Scholars and University Scholars. Nunemaker Center, 1506 Engel Rd.

4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Reception for graduating minority students and their parents. Malott Room, Kansas Union.

4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.: School of Business undergraduate reception. Bruckmiller and McGee rooms, Adams Alumni Center.

5 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Sixteenth annual minority graduation banquet for all graduating minority students. Big Eight Room, Kansas Union. Graduating minority students may attend at no cost. Parent and guest tickets on sale at the Office of Minority Affairs, 145 Strong Hall, 864-4351.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: School of Education convocation and reception for all graduating students and their guests. Crafton-Preyer Theatre, Murphy Hall.

Sunday

8 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Memorial Drive closed to traffic. Parking will be prohibited on Memorial Drive from midnight Saturday until 8 p.m. Sunday.

8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.: Class of 1992 commencement breakfast for graduating students and their families. Breakfast served at 8 a.m. Program begins at 8:30 a.m. Kansas Union Ballroom.

8 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Pre-ordered caps, gowns, tassels and hoods may be picked up at gates 22 and 23, north end, Memorial Stadium. Late orders also will be accepted at this time.

9 a.m.: Graduate School hooding ceremony. Crafton-Preyer Theatre, Murphy Hall.

9 a.m.: School of Law brunch for graduates and their guests. Oliver Residence Hall dining room.

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications reception. Journalism reading room, 210 Stauffer-Flint Hall.

10 a.m.: School of Pharmacy doctoral hooding ceremony. 2048 Malott Hall. School of Engineering reception. Learned Hall patio. Followed at 11:30 a.m. by the School of Engineering recognition and awards ceremony in Allen Fieldhouse.

10 a.m. to noon: School of Business and Beta Gamma Sigma honors brunch at Fifi's Banquet Connection, 1350 N. Third.

10:30 a.m.: School of Education brunch for doctoral graduates and their guests. Brazilian Room, Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.

10:30 a.m.: Department of Music and Dance student recognition ceremony. Swarthout Recital Hall, Murphy Hall.

10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: School of Architecture and Urban Design brunch. Big Eight and Jayhawk rooms, Kansas Union.

11 a.m.: School of Pharmacy awards and recognition program for the entire graduating class. 3139 and 3140 Wescoe Hall, followed by a reception at noon on the south patio of Wescoe Hall (second floor).

11 a.m.: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences recognition ceremony in honor of students graduating with distinction and highest distinction. Lawrence High School, 2017 La.

11:30 a.m.: School of Engineering recognition and awards ceremony. Allen Fieldhouse.

11:30 a.m.: Graduate School doctoral hooding luncheon, Frontier Room, Burge Union.

Noon: School of Law hooding ceremony, Crafton-Preyer Theatre, Murphy Hall.

1 p.m.: School of Social Welfare hooding ceremony for M.S.W. degree candidates. Recognition of bachelor of social work degree candidates. Allen Fieldhouse.

2 p.m.: Seniors, graduate degree recipients and faculty assemble for commencement procession. Memorial Drive.

2:30 p.m.: Commencement procession begins.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Chancellor's reception for graduates and their guests, hosted by Chancellor and Mrs. Gene A. Budig, chancellor's residence, 1532 Lilac Ln.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Rental caps, gowns, tassels and hoods may be returned at gates 22 and 23, north end, Memorial Stadium.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Diplomas may be picked up by the recipient on the first floor of Strong Hall (photo identification required).

Monday, May 18

9 a.m. to noon: Rental caps, gowns, tassels and hoods may be returned without penalty at gates 22 and 23, north end, Memorial Stadium.

11 a.m.: ROTC joint service commissioning ceremony. Swarthout Recital Hall, Murphy Hall. Reception follows in Murphy Hall.
