Dedication of the Buffalo Soldier Monument at Fort Leavenworth will be at 6 p.m. July 25 at the post, according to U.S. Navy Cmdr. Carlton G. Philpot.
Other events planned in connection with the dedication include a play July 24 and a July 25 luncheon.
The play is about Lt. Henry Flipper, the first black graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the first black officer assigned to command buffalo soldiers, Philpot said, and will be staged on post.
The Saturday luncheon, for which reservations are recommended, will be at the Sunflower Baptist Church in Leavenworth.
For more information on dedication activities, Philpot suggested calling 913-682-0255. The number is an answering service, he said. Callers can leave their name and phone number or address and information will be returned to them.
Written requests for more information should be addressed to Buffalo Soldier Monument Committee, P.O. Box 3372, Fort Leavenworth 66027.
