Authorities have uncovered many leads, but no main suspects in connection with Friday's apparent murder of a rural Ottawa woman, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's officer in charge of the investigation.
Capt. Craig Davis said today 25 officers from the sheriff's department, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Ottawa and Wellsville police departments are looking into the death of Doris E. Branson, 45, who died at her home from loss of blood due to numerous stab wounds.
"We've done somewhere in the vicinity of 200 interviews," Davis said.
Officers conducted a check lane at an intersection near Branson's rural Ottawa residence for five hours Monday night to ask motorists if they had witnessed any suspicious activity Friday evening, he said, adding that the questioning resulted in about 30 new tips.
Anyone who noticed anything suspicious or any unfamiliar cars Friday evening four miles north and west of Ottawa, where Branson lived, is urged to call the sheriff's department at 242-3800 or the Kansas Crime Hotline at 1-800-KS-CRIME.
