A 38-year-old Lawrence woman reported her purse was snatched at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in a city parking lot as she was getting something out of her car.
It was the second robbery report this week and the eighth within a 30-day period.
In the latest incident, police said the woman was looking for an ice-scraper in the trunk of her car, parked in a lot in the 1000 block of Vermont, when a man approached her from behind and began tugging at her purse.
During the struggle, the woman was pushed to the ground. The suspect left, with the purse, on foot and headed south in the alley between Massachusetts and Vermont.
Lawrence police later found the woman's purse and some of its contents, minus $30 cash, in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania. Police also found inside the purse two sets of keys that did not belong to the woman.
The keys reportedly belong to two Lawrence residents who had reported them stolen Wednesday night from the swimming pool locker room at Lawrence High School, 1901 La. A police spokesman said this morning that the purse-snatcher probably was involved with the locker room theft.
Police today continued their investigation into a Tuesday night incident in which three men robbed at knifepoint an attendant and patron at Bally's LeMans Family Fun Center, 1601 W. 23rd.
