Services for John L. Derrick, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary with the Rev. Rod Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Derrick died Sunday, May 31, 1992, at his home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1910, the son of Roy A. Derrick and Hattie Menefee in Washington County. He graduated from Hollenberg High School and received a bachelor's degree from Greeley College in Colorado.
Mr. Derrick became superintendent of schools in Hollenberg in 1939 and worked in the drafting and design department at Beech Aircraft during World War II.
He farmed for a brief period before he was appointed welfare director in Smith Center. He served as director of Social and Rehabilitation Services in Lawrence from 1962 to 1975.
Mr. Derrick was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and Mount Oread Aerie No. 309, Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Lawrence.
He married Ilah Jennings on Aug. 12, 1939, in Washington. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Roy, Lawrence; a daughter, Sharon Beach, Victorville, Calif.; a brother, Lyle, Fairbury, Neb.; and two grandsons.
