A camera, stereo equipment, several compact discs, two videocassette recorders and other items were taken between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday from an apartment in the 1300 block of West 24th Street. The items were valued together on a police report at $5,003.
A 24-year-old Lawrence man was arrested early this morning on drug-related charges after police reportedly found marijuana plants and growing lights in his apartment in the 1800 block of Kentucky. A police spokesman said officers were called to the apartment about 3 a.m. after neighbors reported somebody was shooting off fireworks there. When officers arrived, police reported, they found the plants and the growing lights. The man was arrested on charges of possessing marijuana with the intent to sell and possessing drug paraphernalia. He was being held without bond today in the Douglas County Jail.
A 39-year-old Lawrence woman reported to police on Friday that another woman sexually assaulted her between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday at the woman's apartment in the 700 block of Connecticut. Police reported that the victim, who is mentally handicapped, had gone to the house for a picnic. While there, the victim told police, she was sexually molested by the other woman. Police this morning were trying to locate the other woman for questioning.
A 25-year-old rural Lawrence man was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later released, police said, after two men approached him about 12:40 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Connecticut and struck him in the head with a full can of beer. The man suffered a minor concussion and a cut to the forehead, police said. The victim told police that the attack was unprovoked and that the men didn't say anything when they approached him. The victim gave police a partial description of one man but was unable to provide details about the other suspect.
An 18-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later released after a fight about 2:15 a.m. Saturday at Tee Pee Junction, located at the intersection of U.S. Highways 24-40 and 24-59. Officers reported that the man and a 20-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man were struck by another man during a party. The 20-year-old man was treated at the scene by Douglas County paramedics. Officers said they could not find anyone at the party who would provide further information.
An 18-year-old Eudora man was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and later released after a fight about 12:30 a.m. Saturday at a residence about two miles south of Lawrence on Douglas County Road 1250E. Officers reported that the man had stepped between two men who were arguing. One of the men struck the victim several times, knocked him to the ground and struck him with a rock, officers said. No arrests have been made.
Alicia Rooman, 17, Rt. 1, was listed in fair condition today at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., with injuries she suffered in an accident July 6 about two miles west of Lawrence on Douglas County Road 700E.
Rhonda Jenkins, 9, McLouth, remained in serious condition today at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., with injuries she suffered in an accident Wednesday about a mile north of McLouth.
