Mass of Christian burial for Stephen Patrick Shields, 39, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Lawrence Catholic Center with the Rev. Vince Krische officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Parish rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Mr. Shields died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1992, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., after a sudden illness.
He was born March 17, 1952, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Edward V. and Donna (Larkin) Shields. He moved to Lawrence in 1978.
Mr. Shields received a degree in business administration from Kansas University in 1981. He was a self-employed caterer and also had worked at the training table for the KU athletic department. He attended the St. Lawrence Catholic Center.
He married Joan Grosdidier on Dec. 1, 1984, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his mother, Donna Shields, Florissant, Mo.; two brothers, Michael, Boston, Mass., and Edward V., Florissant, Mo.; and a sister, Kathleen Ann Shields, Florissant, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward V. Shields Sr.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the KU Medical Center for research, which may be sent in care of the KU Endowment Association or the funeral home.
