The representative of the family that owns the Bowersock Mills and Power Co. said today that he has yet to make a decision on whether to pursue his effort to get more water flowing over the Bowersock Dam in Lawrence.
Stephen Hill also said he has not set a time frame for making a decision to exercise Bowersock's vested water rights. He had asked for a flow increase to 2,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) or a restoration of the normal flow for this time of year at the dam, whichever is less. The water flow at the dam, which generates electricity, had been running in the 1,000 cfs to 1,100 cfs range earlier this month.
On Jan. 17, the state Division of Water Resources said an examination of Kansas River water flows indicated that only 31 cfs of water was available to increase the flow over the dam.
